Meet Benicia Chiropractor Dr. DeAnne Miller

I grew up in Iowa, the fountainhead of Chiropractic. At that time I had no idea what chiropractic was and certainly was not considering it as a career. However, my grandparents were farmers. Living off the land and respecting nature was an integral part of their lives. In conjunction with that, my grandfather would see his chiropractor on a regular basis.
In fact, his chiropractor was his primary doctor. The only time I remember him ever seeing his medical doctor was for emergencies or broken bones. Witnessing my grandparents lifestyle instilled in me an unwavering reverence for living in balance with nature and a deep respect for the healing intelligence within.

continue my education in the health field. I considered nursing school, physical therapy and osteopathic medicine but nothing was in line with my philosophy of health and healing. As fate would have it, while working out, I injured my back and was in desperate need of relief. I found myself in a chiropractic office and to my amazement was up and walking within a couple of visits. My chiropractor shared with me the essence of the chiropractic philosophy was to enable the body’s own innate intelligence to heal itself...no drugs, no side effects, no surgery. Finally, I had found a health system consistent with my philosophy!
Shortly after that, I found myself back in Iowa at Palmer Chiropractic College. Four years of intensive study and an externship trip to Nepal left me with a deep passion and commitment towards helping others in restoring their health.

After graduating from Arizona State with a degree in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition, I knew I wanted to continue my education in the health field. It is my passion to take care of entire families. Having a specialty in Pregnancy and Pediatrics, I feel it is important for all babies to be checked by a chiropractor after the traumatic birth process. We know that ensuring children’s spine and nervous system are functioning at their best, not only contributes to their overall growth and development, but will produce a much healthier adulthood. Families who make choices for proactive health care are teaching their children that their health is a valuable asset. Young or old, everyone can benefit from better health through chiropractic care and whole food nutritional support!

With a small town feel and artistic flare, I am happy to call Benicia home for Essence of Life. Passionate about organic farming and gardening I enjoy growing fresh produce and flowers in my backyard. Nothing is better then walking into my backyard and picking fresh vegetables for dinner. Besides gardening, reading and walking along the waterfront with my dog Mogi I keep busy during my personal time with pilates, yoga and weightlifting which allows me to stay mentally grounded throughout the week. I also have developed a passion for reading and studying anything that deals with the topic of elevating

human potential. I have integrated these teachings into my adjusting technique, and I am excited with the life-changing results that we are seeing with our practice members.
Thanks for visiting our site. I look forward to meeting you in person and learning how we may be of service to you.
Meet Jessica Klieman, Patient Advocate and Front Desk Extraordinaire

I  grew up in San Ramon with my mother and my twin brother.  I graduated from California high school and attended Las Positas Junior college  before transferring to Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village, NV. I grew up going to Lake Tahoe for summer vacation and it was my dream to go to school there. I did however end up finishing my degree at San Francisco State University due to their more extensive Zoology program.  I have always had a passion for animals and I choose to pursue a degree in Zoology to enable me to teach and share information regarding conservation.  After college I participated in two different internship programs; one at a small wildlife shelter in Homewood, CA (at Lake Tahoe) and the other for the Oakland Zoo. While interning at the zoo I also worked as a cake decorator for Whole foods in San Francisco. It may sound strange to hear that an aspiring zoo keeper also is a cake decorator but I have many interests

interests and I have tried to pursue as many as I can to
this point. I did end up receiving a position to
work for the Oakland zoo as a part time zookeeper taking care of the education animal collection.  And after an almost 4 year stay with the zoo I had become an intern, a zookeeper and an educator.
While at the zoo I was surrounded by a great community of knowledgeable and innovative green thinkers. This led me to do much of my own research about going green in every sense of my life. I read many books and searched a few great website resources and have come to find out that if you want to go green on the outside a person should consider going green on the inside as well.  I was also dealing with my own personal health issues and it led me to seek out alternative medicine and nutrition to help me avoid tradition methods of treatment for dealing with pain.  I did as much as I could with the resources I had to change many aspects of my life and I have positively felt the results of my decisions.
I am happy to now be a part of a team where I can share my passion for alternative medicine,  good nutrition, cooking, and preventative care. I am a happy new Benicia resident, living with my husband Erich , my cat Ramona, and our new dog Zoe.  I enjoy walking and hiking, cooking, photography and gardening in our garden. I seem to learn something new about Benicia just driving through town and I am so glad to have a new place to call home.  I look forward to being a helpful and involved part of the Essence of Life community  and meeting and getting to know you all!
